Second Chapter
1. झूठ बोलना, कठोरता, छल करना, बेवकूफी करना, लालच, अपवित्रता और निर्दयता ये औरतो के नैसर्गिक दुर्गुण है.

2.भोजन के योग्य पदार्थ और भोजन करने की क्षमता, सुन्दर स्त्री और उसे भोगने के लिए काम शक्ति, पर्याप्त धनराशी तथा दान देने की भावना - ऐसे संयोगों का होना सामान्य तप का फल नहीं है .
2. To have ability for eating when dishes are ready at hand, to be robust and virile in the company of one's religiously wedded wife, and to have a mind for making charity when one is prosperous are the fruits of no ordinary austerities.

३. उस व्यक्ति ने धरती पर ही स्वर्ग को पा लिया-
१. जिसका पुत्र आग्यांकारी है.
२. जिसकी पत्नी उसकी इच्छा के अनुरूप व्यव्हार करती है.
३. जिसे अपने धन पर संतोष है.
3. He whose son is obedient to him, whose wife's conduct is in accordance with his wishes, and who is content with his riches, has his heaven here on earth.
४. पुत्र वही है जो पिता का कहना मानता है, पिता वही है जो पुत्रों का पालन पोषण करे . मित्र वह है जिस पर आप विश्वास कर सकते है और पत्नी वही है जिससे सुख प्राप्त हो .
4. They alone are sons who are devoted to their father. He is a father who supports his sons. He is a friend in whom we can confide, and she only is a wife in whose company the husband feels contented and peaceful.
५. उनसे बचे जो आपसे मुह पर तो मीठी बाते करते है लेकिन पीठ पीछे आपको बबारद करने की योजना बनाते है. ऐसा करने वाले तो उस विष के घड़े के समान है जिसकी उपरी सतह पर दूध है.
5. Avoid him who talks sweetly before you but tries to ruin you behind your back, for he is like a pitcher of poison with milk on top.
६. एक बुरे मित्र पर तो कभी विश्वास ना करे. एक अच्छे मित्र पर भी विश्वास ना करे. यदि ऐसे लोग आप पर गुससा होते है तो आप के सभी राज वो खोल देगे.
6. Do not put your trust in a bad companion nor even trust an ordinary friend, for if he should get angry with you, he may bring all your secrets to light.
७. मन में सोंचे हुए कार्य को किसी के सामने प्रकट न करें बल्कि मनन पूर्वक उसकी सुरक्षा करते हुए उसे कार्य में परिणत कर दें.
7. Do not reveal what you have thought upon doing, but by wise counsel keep it secret, being determined to carry it into execution.
८. मुर्खता दुखदायी है, जवानी भी दुखदायी है, लेकिन इससे कही ज्यादा दुखदायी किसी दुसरे के घर जाकर उससे अहसान लेना है.
8. Foolishness is indeed painful, and verily so is youth, but more painful by far than either is being obliged in another person's house.
९. हर पहाड़ पर माणिक्य नहीं होते, हर हाथी के सर पर मणी नहीं होता, सज्जन पुरुष भी हर जगह होते और हर वन मे चन्दन के वृक्ष भी नहीं होते हैं .
9. There does not exist a pearl in every mountain, nor a pearl in the head of every elephant; neither are the sadhus to be found everywhere, nor sandal trees in every forest.
[Note: Only elephants in royal palaces are seen decorated with pearls (precious stones) on
their heads].
१०. बुद्धिमान पिता को अपने बचचो को शुभ गुणों की सीख देनी चाहिए क्योंकि नीतिज्ञ और ज्ञानी व्यक्तियों की ही कुल में पूजा होती है.
10. Wise men should always bring up their sons in various moral ways, for children who have knowledge of niti-sastra and are well behaved become a glory to their family.
११. जो माता व् पिता अपने बच्चों को शिक्षा नहीं देते है वो तो बच्चों के शत्रु के सामान हैं. क्योंकि वे विद्याहीन बालक विद्वानों की सभा में वैसे ही तिरस्कृत किये जाते हैं जैसे हंसो की सभा मे बगुले.
11. Those parents who do not educate their sons are their enemies; for as is a crane among swans, so are ignorant sons in a public assembly.
१२. लाड-प्यार से बच्चों मे गलत आदते ढलती है. उनहे कड़ी शिक्षा देने से वे अचछी आदते सीखते है. इसीलिए बचचो को दिणडत करे, जयादा लाड ना करे.
12. Many a bad habit is developed through over indulgence, and many a good one by chastisement, therefore beat your son as well as your pupil; never indulge them. ("Spare the rod and spoil the child.")
१३. ऐसा एक भी दिन ना जाये जब आपने एक श्लोक , आधा श्लोक, चौथाई श्लोक, या केवल श्लोक का एक अक्षर नहीं सिखा, या आपने दान, अभ्यास या कोई पवित्र कार्य नहीं किया .
13. Let not a single day pass without your learning a verse, half a verse, or a fourth of it, or even one letter of it; nor without attending to charity, study and other pious activity.
१४. पत्नी का वियोग होना, आपने ही लोगो से बे-इजजत होना, बचा हुआ ऋण, दुष राजा की सेवा करना, गरीबी एवं दरिद्रों की सभा - ये छह बाते शारीर को बिना अग्नि के ही जला देती हैं.
14. Separation from the wife, disgrace from one's own people, an enemy saved in battle, service to a wicked king, poverty, and a mismanaged assembly: these six kinds of evils, if afflicting a person, burn him even without fire.
१५. नदी के किनारे बसे हुए वृक्ष , दुसरे व्यक्ति के घर मे जाने अथवा रहने वाली स्त्री एवं बिना मंत्रियों का राजा - ये सब निश्चय ही शीघ्र नस्ट हो जाते हैं.
15. Trees on a riverbank, a woman in another man's house, and kings without counselors go without doubt to swift destruction.
१६. एक बाहण का बल तेज और विद्या है , एक राजा का बल उसकी सेना मे है, एक वैशय का बल उसकी दौलत मे है तथा एक शुद्र का बल उसकी सेवा परायणता मे है.
16. A brahmin's strength is in his learning, a king's strength is in his army, a vaishya's strength is in his wealth and a shudra's strength is in his attitude of service.
१७. वेशया निर्धन व्यक्ति को छोड़कर चली जाती है. प्रजा पराजित राजा को छोड़कर चली जाती है, पक्षी फलरहित वृक्ष को छोड़ देते है.एवं मेहमान भोजन करने के बाद घर से चल पड़ते है.
17. The prostitute has to forsake a man who has no money, the subject a king that cannot defend him, the birds a tree that bears no fruit, and the guests a house after they have finished their meals.
१८. ब्रह्मण आपने यजमानो को दक्षिणा मलने के बाद छोड़ देते है. विद्यारथी विद्या प्राप्ति के बाद गुरु को
और पशु जले हुए वन को त्याग देते हैं.
18. Brahmins quit their patrons after receiving alms from them, scholars leave their teachers after receiving education from them, and animals desert a forest that has been burnt down.
१९. जो व्यक्ति दुराचारी, कुदृष्टि वाले , एवं बुरे स्थान पर रहने वाले मनुष्य के साथ मित्रता करता है, वह शीघ्र नष्ट हो जाता है.
19. He who befriends a man whose conduct is vicious, whose vision impure, and who is notoriously crooked, is rapidly ruined.
२०. प्रेम और मित्रताता बराबर वालों में अच्छी लगती है . राजा के यहाँ नौकरी करने वाले को इजजत मिलती है. व्यवसायों में वाणिज्य सबसे अच्छा है, अवं उत्तम गुणों वाली स्त्री घर में सुशोभित होती है.
20. Friendship between equals flourishes, service under a king is respectable, it is good to be business-minded in public dealings, and a handsome lady is safe in her own home.
